The Provincialists are a group of Nordic artists who met in the Scandinavian Association's Center for Artists in Rome in 2004. Following their stay in Rome they decided to arrange a series of exhibitions under the title “The Provincialists”, as well as organizing seminars where the concept of “provincialism” would be explored from various viewpoints.

The aim of the seminar is the engage people in a critical and dynamic discourse on the concept of provincialism. Participants, who are involved in theory, art, and exhibition curating, will discuss the concept from various standpoints, examining how it applies to contemporary art as well as to society in general. The seminar will be held in English, and is open to everybody interested.
